After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University, I worked in the government sector for three years while pursuing a Master of Science in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas.  Upon graduation, I switched careers into the insurance industry where I have worked since.

When our first daughter was born in 1999, my wife decided she wanted to stop teaching and stay home with our daughter.  It was at that time I began teaching part-time for Collin College as an Associate Faculty member in 2000 to supplement the income loss.  God was very much a part of this plan.  He has more than supplemented our income through the years while at the same time allowing me to enjoy my passion of government and teaching.

My family includes my beautiful wife, Cari, who is a stay at home mom.  Our first daughter, Macailey, is a student at Oklahoma State University pursing a Veterinary Medicine degree.  Our second daughter, Kinley, is a student at THEO and Collin College.  Our family also includes two young men, Devante and Dylan, to whom we fostered during their senior years in high school.  As far as critters, we have 5 dogs and 6 chickens.

Teaching, teenagers, trigonometry…I have a love and passion for them all!
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics, I am a Texas certified teacher in Mathematics and English. I enjoyed nine years as a Plano ISD high school mathematics teacher, teaching all levels of high school math courses. I obtained my Masters in Secondary Education from the University of North Texas. While teaching in Plano I was selected Jasper High School’s 2001 Teacher of the Year and a Plano ISD Excellence in Teaching Award Winner.

I left the public school classroom in 2002 with the seemingly exponential growth of my family – twins were born! Upon exiting the classroom I began tutoring privately where I enjoy working with students one on one as well as keeping up to date with current high school math curricula. In 2009 my husband and I surprised even ourselves with the decision to homeschool our four children. We continue to find homeschooling a wonderful journey and are so thankful for the opportunity to teach, enjoy, and grow with our elementary to high school aged children.

Miss Gibson attended RHSA (Richardson Homeschool Association) all through elementary and middle school. She then attended Town North (or The Green Roof Co-op) for all 4 years of high school and graduated in 2018. She also attended THEO her Junior and Senior year. After graduating, she became a student at Collin College. she joined the Sign Language Interpreter Program, and graduated in August, 2021.

Miss Gibson has always loved working with kids. She has helped at a summer Bible camp, taught piano, worked in childcare at her church, assisted at a Vacation Bible School for deaf kids, etc.

She has been a nanny for several families and is now a teacher. She taught last year at Friday Adventures and is teaching again this year. She can’t wait to see what the Lord has next for her!

I have had the opportunity to explore many purposes from the Lord over the years, and I am so grateful for each experience that has led to where I am today. I was born and raised in Austin, TX where I grew up getting to volunteer at a school for students with special needs and working several jobs in childcare and afterschool facilities. I have had a love for working with children for as long as I can remember! I also did several years of modeling which sparked my interest in the art of photography. I attended college and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I met my husband in Lubbock and we moved to the Dallas area, where we met our church family and have spent time volunteering in the children’s and teen ministries. I taught in Plano ISD in both a high school and a middle school as a Special Education teacher for several years. Six months after our second child was born, my husband and I decided that I should be a stay-at-home mama to our then 2-year-old son, and daughter. What a blessing that time was to get to spend so much time with our kiddos in their early years. However, we never thought that homeschool life would be a part of our story! Our children attended elementary school in Wylie ISD and during that time, I opened my business, Lindsey Buerger Photography. Working as a business owner and a portrait photographer, I have learned so much, I have met so many incredible people, and I have gained confidence and learned that it is so important to share our gifts that can bring joy to others with the world. During my son’s 5th grade year, the Lord started calling our family to homeschool him and boy am I so glad that we trusted Him because our children are thriving and loving learning! Our son is now in the 7th grade and our daughter is in her first year of homeschool in 5th grade. The THEO community has been such a blessing to them this year, and I am excited to get to participate as well, teaching photography. I can’t wait to meet you! You can see some of my photography work at www.LindseyBuergerPhotography.com where I primarily work with high school seniors!

Teaching at THEO checks off every box for what I believe God wants me to be doing in this season of my life!

I am thankful God opened the door to be a part of supporting homeschool families as I homeschooled my sons, as well!

I am a newbie Texan having recently moved to Plano from Oregon where I have lived my entire life!  My husband and I felt God’s strong leading to move in order to be closer to our 2 sons who both serve in ministry and their young families.

We have 5 amazing grandchildren and can’t wait to live life side by side rather than through FaceTime????

In order to make the transition to Texas, I resigned from the Oregon private Christian School that I directed for the last 7 years.  Prior to that directorship, I taught Kindergarten and directed another private school for 15 years!

I homeschooled both of our sons through high school and led the area parent co-op group, as well as taught classes for homeschoolers.

I graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

I have been a worship leader for the past 30 years and love helping children discover their calling in worship through piano lessons and songwriting!

I have written a children’s book and a novel and look forward to more opportunities to continue my love for writing by teaching the Friday Adventures literature and language arts class!

I am beyond excited to begin this new adventure at THEO and look forward to getting to know the children and families as we partner together to give children the richest education!

What a wonderful adventure life is when God is at the helm!

Personal

Growing up in South Houston, I was the daughter of a small business man.  My family was largely unchurched and graduating from high school was seen as an accomplishment.  I was the first and only member of my family to go to and graduate from college.  While in college, I met my future husband.  He and his group of friends shared Christ’s love and grace with me, and it was not long before I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  Throughout my college years, I devoured the Bible.  I wanted to know everything within the pages of God’s word.  I began college with the hopes of being a high school math teacher, but as my relationship with the Lord grew, he closed that door and opened another.  I went to work for a telecommunications company teaching a proprietary database system to new hires and writing teaching materials for employees.  Seven years later, the Lord closed that door and opened the door to motherhood and homeschooling.  My oldest child struggled through school with several cognitive weaknesses and spent years in cognitive therapy.  I learned to adapt my teaching style to her ever changing day-to-day strengths.  I have become a very patient teacher, and I believe that every student has the ability to learn if we can tap into their strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses.  My educational strengths have always been math and science, and I would be honored to share my passion of these subjects with your student.  It has been my experience that the Lord uses my enthusiasm for these subjects to motivate students to enjoy learning these subjects as well.
