I’m so happy to join the community of home schoolers at THEO.
At THEO, our teachers make all the difference.
Unlike rigid school systems, THEO gives teachers the freedom to create their own curriculum and adapt to different learning styles. This means your child gets personalized attention and teaching approaches that actually fit how they learn best. Our teachers don’t just deliver lessons—they inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help students discover the joy of learning.
With decades of combined experience, our faculty has taught thousands of homeschool students. They’ve navigated learning differences, prepared students for college, and watched countless families transform from uncertain to confident in their homeschool journey.
Our English teachers cultivate strong writers, critical thinkers, and passionate readers. From foundational writing skills to advanced literature analysis, they help students develop the communication abilities essential for college and career success.
Whether your child needs grammar support, essay writing instruction, or exposure to classic and contemporary literature, our English faculty provides engaging, rigorous instruction that builds confident communicators.
Having grown up in the homeschool community (even attending THEO when it was first founded), Nathan appreciates the opportunity to offer the same outstanding education that he received to the next generation. As a child, Nathan struggled to learn to read, so he understands the challenges of becoming a proficient reader and writer; he aims to nurture the reader that exists in every student. In the theater (and later with film), he encountered more struggles and experiences that he is thrilled to have the opportunity to share with his students. Providing guidance from what he has learned about the process of creating films and theatrical productions with future creatives.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23-24

I am honored to teach Photography with a Digital Camera and Yearbook/Project Management here at THEO. My students are a tremendous blessing, and I love watching their confidence grow as they discover their creativity throughout the year.
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I am a graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. After moving to the Dallas area in 2007, I taught Special Education in Plano ISD at both the middle and high school levels, reflecting my heart for students with special needs and learning differences.
After becoming a stay-at-home mom, I opened Lindsey Buerger Photography as a portrait photographer. I believe God calls us to use our gifts to bring joy to others, which is why I love helping students grow in skill and confidence through photography and yearbook.
During our son’s 5th grade year, the Lord called our family to homeschool. Both of our children now attend THEO, and this community has been a wonderful blessing and support in our homeschooling journey.
Eileen Chapman has been teaching at THEO since 2007. She retired in May of 2025 but has continued to teach the Precept Bible Study online. After Covid members of the class preferred to stay online. Mrs. Chapman will contact the members of the class in the summer to assign books and materials.
Precept Bible Study on Mondays from 9-11 online.
Kathy Franda homeschooled her 3 children for 12 years graduating the youngest in May 2011. She has been teaching science, computer, geography, psychology, and elective classes at THEO since 2009 and other local co-ops since 2000. She has a B.A. from University of Rochester in New York. Kathy’s lifelong passion for science began at an early age growing up at and exploring the estuaries and intertidal zone of a barrier island in New Jersey. She has traveled to many of the states, countries, and marine habitats that she teaches about – often with National Geographic educational programs. She believes in “hands on” learning to improve initial learning, long term retention and student interest and teaches utilizing varied methods to benefit various learning strengths.
At THEO, Kathy teaches Forensic Science, Geography, Psychology, Computer Information Technology (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Marine Biology and Keyboarding.

“As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.” Socrates said these now immortal words over 2000 years ago, and I couldn’t agree more. I am a passionate student having earned certificates at the Alliance Francaise in Paris, France and the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria. I was a Pre-Law student studying Political Science with minors in Western European Studies and English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh when I met my husband and started our family. I continued my studies at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and the University of Houston and completed my Bachelors Degree at Dallas Baptist University.
I believe in being a student of life. God has graced me with a passion for communication and a love for teaching it. I have been teaching and coaching at THEO since 2010.
My goal is for every student I teach to develop a passion for learning. Education should be challenging, inspiring and fun. Learning never stops and is a gift from God to all.
Our arts teachers believe every child has creative potential. From visual arts to drama, music to film production, they provide professional-level instruction in welcoming environments where students can explore, experiment, and express themselves.
Our fine arts faculty includes working professionals who bring real-world experience to their teaching, giving students both technical skills and artistic confidence.
My clients include ExxonMobil, the Dallas Cowboys, Ross Perot, Chanel, and many brides (whose wedding invitations I have addressed). It’s a joy to be able to bring to class projects I’m working on so I can explain my work as a professional calligrapher.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve at THEO. With a background in music education, leadership development, and ministry, my passion has always been to help others grow—not just in their talents, but in their faith and character as well.
I hold a Master’s degree in Music Conducting from the American Band College and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Southern California. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching and directing music programs at various schools from elementary to high school, mentoring youth in faith-based settings, and even performing as a lead trumpet player for the Los Angeles Lakers Band. I’ve enjoyed serving as an adjunct music professor, a youth ministry leader, and recently founding Father Power 365, a mentorship and discipleship initiative.
Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or at home, I strive to make a lasting impact by fostering leadership, faith, and creativity in those around me. Through every experience, I have seen God’s hand at work, shaping my journey and deepening my desire to pour into the next generation.
More than any accomplishments, my greatest joy is my family. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 22 years and three incredible children—two sons, ages 15 and 13, and a 10-year-old daughter. Our home is filled with music, laughter, and daily reminders of God’s grace.
Steve Horvath has been teaching music for over 20 years and brings a blend of real-world experience, formal study, and a heart for students. He has studied music theory at the college level, trained under accomplished musicians, played in bands, and served as a worship pastor for seven years. Steve also has extensive experience leading and directing kids’ bands, helping young musicians grow both individually and as part of a group.
Alongside his wife Courtney, Steve has spent more than a decade running a successful local music school with a team of instructors serving hundreds of students. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music should be enjoyable and meaningful while also building strong fundamentals. Steve understands that students pursue music for different reasons, and he works to encourage growth, confidence, and appropriate challengesJeni Tomlinson for each learner.
Steve continues to serve on worship teams and has played guitar at churches throughout the DFW area. He and Courtney have three children (ages 21, 19, and 12). Having been homeschooled himself through 8th grade — and homeschooling two of his own children — Steve values education deeply and hopes every student finds joy in music while growing through the process.

Hi! My name is Brandy Ping, and I am thrilled to share my passion for art with your students!
As a former homeschool mom who successfully graduated all four of my children (two of which were THEO attendees), I truly understand the value of personalized education. For the past three decades, I’ve channeled my creativity through interior design, using drawing and composition to bring beautiful spaces to life.
I’ve loved helping students of all levels—from tiny hands in preschool to high school artists—in VBS and co-op classes. I especially adore working with 3rd-5th graders, as their limitless creativity and enthusiasm for trying new things are an absolute joy!
I look forward to inspiring your students and providing a space where their unique artistic gifts can grow and shine.
I was born and grew up in Beijing, China. I have a BSc. degree from Peking University. Then I went to Canada for graduate study. I earned an Msc. degree in Physics from the University of British Columbia and an MSc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. My husband and I moved to Plano due to his work. I started to take watercolor painting classes not long after we moved here.
I have been a teaching assistant and tutor in graduate schools, and I also taught ESL and high school math in Toronto. I started to teach Chinese language at THEO from 2011 and started to teach watercolor painting a few years later. I love to share my native language and Chinese culture with other people. And painting in watercolor is a lot of fun and brings joy and peace to my life and I would like to share that too.
Jeni Tomlinson has been working professionally as an artist for over thirty years. Murals, portraiture, children’s book illustration and her own original work has been collected all across the globe. Teaching workshops, small groups and one-on-one has been a joy to her and continues to this day. Born in McKinney, Texas, Ms. Tomlinson has sought out the beauty of God’s creation and loves to show and express it on canvas. The play of light and shadows, musicians in performance, the beauty of a cutting horse at work; these are some of her favorite things to paint.
Ms. Tomlinson is currently exhibiting at the LAST Art Gallery in McKinney,Texas.
Her collection and portfolio may be viewed on her website at www.jenitomlinsonstudios.com.
Behind every great teacher is a support system that makes learning possible. Our administrative and support staff ensure smooth operations, warm welcomes, and excellent service for every THEO family.

Our history teachers bring the past to life, helping students understand how historical events shape our present and future. From American history to world civilizations, they teach from a Christian worldview that recognizes God’s hand in human events.
Students learn to think critically about historical sources, understand different perspectives, and connect past events to current challenges—developing the informed citizenship essential in today’s world.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Louisiana State University in 1986. After college, I moved to Texas to work for a local defense contractor as a software engineer. I married my husband Charles in 1988. After nine years in the corporate world, I felt God calling me home to be a full-time wife and mother. We have four children that I educated at home from 1996 to 2017. We started attending THEO in 2010. My children completed Cornerstone Curriculum’s Worldviews of the Western World program at THEO while I graded for Mrs. Stewart and/or Mr. Yandell for six years.
I began teaching at THEO in 2011 with Saxon 76. I added Starting Points in 2013, World History and Geography in 2015, Human Geography in 2017, and Worldviews I in 2020.
Below are introductory videos by Mrs. Bryant who will provide insight into each of her classes. First up is her Worldview 1 class:
Worldview 1
In addition to teaching Worldview 1, Mrs. Bryant also teaches a Tuesday afternoon Starting Points class which meets 1:30-4:30.

My name is Matthew Considine, and I will be co-teaching Worldviews here at THEO. As a former Worldviews student and THEO alumni (class of 2018), I understand just how useful Worldviews can be for higher education. I’ve found that it helps immensely in my ongoing college studies, and I’m excited to be able to give that gift of knowledge to my own students. I am currently an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Dallas, where I teach Sunday school and serve as Vice Chair of Youth Discipleship. I attend the University of Texas at Dallas, and I plan to pursue postgraduate education.

Teaching is one of Debbie’s passions, yet she did not realize the extent of this passion until the Lord directed her to homeschool her six children over 32 years ago. All six have graduated! Now she’s helping to school her grandchildren.
Public school, private school or homeschool? What will it be? Having teaching experience in all three has been a blessing that I love to share with others. Sometimes it feels like I have been teaching all my life–and maybe I have. Playing school was my favorite game when I was a kid. Teaching experiences filled my teen years with meaningful activity. I taught in Bible clubs, worked in day care, and started substituting while I was still in college. (Dad was principal of a big Christian school, so I had an inside track on that one.) My Bachelor of Science in Education (cum laude) comes from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. As a Texas certified teacher I taught for 7 years in San Antonio public schools. Those public school teaching experiences include 4 years in remedial reading programs (though I don’t call myself a reading specialist) and 3 years with gifted/talented language arts. I was Teacher of the Year for my school for 2 years and runner-up for Teacher of the Year in my district one of those years. Those awards recognized my habit of trying to make the subject meaningful to my students.
The next twenty years since were the richest and most rewarding of my teaching career–I raised and homeschooled my two children–giving me a variety of wonderful “aha” moments as well as my most challenging teaching experiences. My son is a graduate of Bryan College and happily married with one child. My daughter graduated from Biola University. Both are doing well in the careers they chose to pursue. Both are active in their churches.
During those homeschool years I developed a passion for teaching history and government. When there was a need, I started a homeschool group in Alabama which called me leader for 6 years before my husband’s work moved us to Florida where we joined another homeschool group and I got familiar with yet another way of doing things.
I began teaching Starting Points at a co-op in the north Dallas area when we moved here in 2004. Starting Points combined my love of history, literature, and Bible knowledge, so it was a good fit. My daughter and I went through David Quine’s World Views of the Western World three year curriculum at home. That eventually transitioned into teaching World Views when THEO began. Putting my favorite subjects together in a new format has been a challenge I have enjoyed (emphasis on the CHALLENGE.) This is the most difficult subject I have ever taught—and the most rewarding. Since 2004, I’ve been taking notes on world views and apologetics topics and putting them to use in the classroom. I would love to teach your child, as I taught mine to “Live with your brain turned on.”

Our mathematics teachers bring decades of combined experience teaching everything from elementary foundations to advanced calculus. We offer multiple curriculum options including Saxon, Glencoe, and Jacob’s—allowing us to match your child with the teaching approach that works best for their learning style.
Not sure which level is right for your student? Many of our high school math teachers provide placement testing to ensure students start at the appropriate level for success. While placement tests aren’t the only factor in deciding where to place students, they provide valuable information and a starting point for discussion.
Need extra support? We offer Math Lab—on-demand tutoring for registered THEO students through Algebra 2, available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Jean grew up in South Houston and was the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. During college, she met her husband and came to know Christ, developing a deep love for God’s Word that shaped her life and calling. Although she initially planned to teach high school math, the Lord led her instead into corporate training, where she taught and wrote instructional materials for a telecommunications company. Seven years later, God opened the door to motherhood and homeschooling, where she learned to adapt her teaching style for each of her four children’s unique strengths and needs. With a strong passion for math and science, she would be honored to share her passion for these subjects with your student.
“It has been my experience that the Lord uses my enthusiasm for math and science to motivate students to enjoy learning these subjects as well,” Jean shares.
Lauren did not come to know the Lord until her 30s, and since becoming a believer, God has shown up in big ways. Two of those ways have been His calling for her to homeschool and to teach.
As a naturally math-minded person, Lauren found it both humbling and ironic that her oldest child struggled significantly in math. Through that experience, she developed a wide range of techniques and teaching approaches, which God later allowed to resurface and be refined through her work at THEO.
Lauren has a heart for helping students build confidence in mathematics by making complex concepts approachable and engaging. She emphasizes understanding over memorization and works to meet students where they are in their learning journey.
She is grateful for the opportunity to teach at THEO and considers it a joy to support students as they grow. Teaching has been a clear example of God’s faithfulness, and she is thankful to use the gifts He has given her to serve students and families.
“I love helping students grow in confidence and skill while discovering the beauty, order, and discipline that mathematics offers,” Dixie shares.
“Math is more than numbers — it’s an opportunity to discover how beautifully God designed our world to make sense,” Debi shares.

From hands-on elementary discovery to rigorous high school lab sciences, our science teachers make complex concepts come alive. Using Apologia, Abeka, and other quality curricula, they guide students through biology, chemistry, physics, and specialized sciences like forensics and marine biology.
Our science educators emphasize critical thinking, real-world application, and the wonder of God’s creation—helping students see science as an exploration of how God designed the world.

Although Luis struggled with finding his calling in his early life, he knew for certain that he wanted to help others appreciate the world God has created and expand the opportunities available to them in the future.
Emily has loved science from a young age, with a deep fascination for God’s creation and how the world works. She was homeschooled from Pre-K through her senior year and took classes at THEO throughout high school as a member of the Class of 2014.
Shortly after graduating, Emily felt called to pursue nursing. She began her studies at Collin College, where she took Anatomy and Physiology. “I fell in love with that class and the way all the systems of the human body work together. In that moment, I knew nursing was what I was meant to do.”
After more than six years as a Neonatal ICU nurse, holding national certification in neonatal intensive care, Emily is excited to begin her teaching journey at THEO. As a young mom who hopes to homeschool her own children one day, she is passionate about teaching Anatomy and Physiology and helping students understand the complexity and beauty of the human body. “I look forward to showing students how incredibly and beautifully God designed the human body, and to providing the kind of hands-on learning experiences that first sparked my love for this subject.”
Our language teachers provide immersive, communicative instruction that goes beyond vocabulary lists. Whether studying Spanish, American Sign Language, Japanese, or Chinese, students develop practical language skills while exploring other cultures.
Our foreign language faculty emphasizes conversation, cultural understanding, and real-world application—preparing students for travel, ministry, and global citizenship.
With over 15 years of dedicated Japanese language studies and JLPT certification, Mary delights in inspiring the same passion in her students. Since 2020, she has taught and tutored students in Japanese language, fostering their skills in speaking, reading, and writing. Mary’s expertise extends to Japanese culture and Asian history, where she enjoys connecting language learning with cultural and historical insights. She loves to share the joy God has given her – in exploring and understanding people – to inspire students’ appreciation for Japan and other Asian cultures.
I have been teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at THEO since 2011, and I truly love what I do. One of my greatest joys is introducing students to the beauty of ASL and the rich, fascinating culture of the Deaf community. Nothing excites me more than when a student comes to class eager to share about an interaction they were able to have with a Deaf person that crossed their path.
Over the years, I have taught hundreds of students across a wide range of academic levels and learning abilities. Some students enroll in ASL to fulfill a foreign language requirement, while others are drawn by a long-standing interest in signing. Some discover a passion for the language and go on to pursue careers in interpreting or Deaf education. Many students carry their signing skills into their chosen fields or everyday life, using ASL to connect with the Deaf individuals they meet.
Whether your student has a strong interest in sign language or simply needs a foreign language credit, I would be delighted to welcome them into my class.
¡Hola! I am a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in Cuba. I am married and have three lovely girls. With the help of God, I have been able to home school all three. My two oldest graduated from THEO and are now in college. Through home education, I had the opportunity to pass on my native language to my daughters. Homeschooling them helped me discover a passion for teaching.
Outside of our home, my first experience teaching was under the direction and guidance of THEO’s presigious Spanish teacher, Shari Schwarz. She fanned the flame of my desire to impact the lives of home schooled students with the gift of a second language. I have enjoyed stepping in as a substitute teacher for many THEO classes, and I am excited to begin teaching my own classes this year. Alongside fellow THEO Spanish teacher, Julie Smith, I am in the process of becoming certified as a TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) Teacher, and cannot wait to work with your students. It is going to be a fantastic year!

Julie has over 30 years of experience between teaching in public and private schools, homeschool co-op settings, and homeschooling her own children. She currently offers high school classes in person through THEO, private online classes for children and adults, and teacher training. In addition to teaching, she enjoys travel, building relationships in the Hispanic community, and translating in a volunteer capacity.

Starting Points
Next is her Human Geography class taught from 9:30-11:30 on Wednesdays at THEO, with prep for the AP Human Geography exam.

Mrs Bryant also teaches World History and Geography, a two credit class for high school students who love to tie together history with geography.

Donna has been teaching for over 35 years- nearly 20 years at THEO! Teaching is a ministry for her. She delights in having a front row seat to her student’s “light bulb” moments. Having had the privilege of homeschooling her own four children, she now participates in her seven grandchildren’s education.
Vicki’s elective classes help high school students make mature choices to be intentional teens and later thriving adults. Money Management God’s Way and Successful Student Strategies incorporate a variety of teaching methods to guide students in practical life skills.
Mrs. Musall taught grades 4, 5, and 6 for ten years in public schools and holds teaching certificates in Texas and Virginia. When her two sons had learning difficulties that needed environments and methods beyond what their public and private schools were providing, God called her to begin homeschooling them.
She began teaching at THEO once her youngest was a senior. Mrs. Musall strives for each student to embrace how he/she learns. She empowers students to take ownership of their learning while partnering with parents and teachers for support. She is privileged to work with students from elementary through high school and strives to integrate Jesus into every lesson.
Mrs. Musall is passionate about helping students overcome challenges and gladly partners with parents to ensure needed accommodations are in place.
Everyone is respected as an individual COG (Child of God) as they strive to learn to be THEO servant leaders for Christ.
